Helping Balaka

What is the Kirk Session's Policy?

At its meeting on the 16th December 2009, the Castle Street Kirk Session considered a report from the Castle Street World Mission Committee on how we can help our partners in Balaka in a practical way. What was agreed was that the best way forward would be to help Balaka complete building the Mvano (Guild) House. When the Mvano House is completed it will be let out for rent as an income-generating project, and the proceeds thus generated will go towards the Balaka Kirk Session's own project to help feed many orphans within the Balaka parish.

What is the Specific Goal?

The Castle Street Kirk Session has decided to set a goal of raising £5000 in total through 2010 and 2011. This sum is what is currently required in Balaka to complete the Mvano House. To see progress go to the Mvano House page.

How will the money be raised?

The Kirk Session is of the view that over the next two years the sum of £5000 can be raised through various avenues:

• Special Watchnight Service Offering. (£497 [2009])

• Gild Collection [£120]

• Special Springtime Saturday Coffee Morning run by Ignition!!! [£240]

• A stall at the Street Fair in September.

• Donations from the Bible Study Group. [£200 [2009]]

• Other initiatives taken up by members of the congregation.
