The Highland Foodbank
Blythswood has initiated a 'Highland Foodbank' which is designed to meet the immediate needs of individuals and families in distress. Blythswood stores food supplies which are given free to needy situations. In 2009 over 2000 people were supplied with food.
The local churches make a significant contribution to the Foodbank, and Blythswood gives guidance on what should be given in order to avoid an imbalance of food types available.
For example, in order to ensure that a more-or-less equal number of items on the Foodbank 'shopping list' was collected, Blythswood asked Castle Street Church to concentrate on specific items at the Harvest Thanksgiving in October, 2009. These were:
Breakfast Cereal Tinned Fruit Tinned Mince UHT Whole Milk
